Process vs Result

Many times i have wondered what do we study for. Most of the times the answer i get is grades. However it is not always that. While in the beginning of the semester, studying something which interests me, is not for grades. But as the semester progresses and exams start impending the focus shifts from knowledge to grades. Mabbe der is sumthing wrong with examination pattern which prefers testing the information than knowledge while grading..i dunno.

Why suddenly as the deadline draws nearer the outlook towards the job at hands changes..??

Mabbe we have a  feeling that gettin the result is more important than doing the process right way. Mabbe in this world the result means more than process or at least we think so. Sumhow we try and get the job done and u have the results. But it dosent give that sense of satisfaction.

Such a thing has happened to me a several times. Recent example would be of a course in which i hardly learnt anything as compared to Masters standards then too i got an A. However i still feel i could repeat that course under some other prof.

Anyways, the point is what should we give importance to..?? Process or Result.
But to think of it..shouldnt a proper process be giving proper result. Yah it should !! But it takes time. And living in such  a competitive world everything has to be done in such a narrow time frame. If you dont strike at proper instant you loose the opportunity. However steep deadlines process is bound to be altered for the sake of result. I might sound like a Bell Head who wants everything in place before putting the product into implementation. But we can alter the Bell Head approach to divide the work into phases and then carrying out each phase using proper process. That is what IP (Internet Protocol, pardon the slang) guys do.

Thus i draw the following conclusion: when given a job at hand, layer the job starting from the basic layer follow the process and go ahead layer by layer. Mabbe it will be slow in the beginning but we can compare it to a building; once build taking everything into consideration, you dont have to worry about it later..I personally wud certainly prefer having knowledge about lesser topics than having information about a lot.
